Modern Luxury Spotlight – Power Players Danesha D Smith
Which skill or insight consistently gives you an edge in your industry?
My approach is rooted in empowered, servant leadership. I believe leadership isn’t about control, it’s about creating space for others to think, contribute and grow. I do a lot of listening and ask questions, building ownership and confidence within the team. I’m also very intentional about who I bring into the organization. When something feels off, I pivot quickly. Strong leadership is about cultivating the right environment for people to thrive and produce meaningful work together.
Beyond AI, how is your field evolving right now?
What will always be relevant is continual learning. I encourage my teams to stay curious, ask why and remain open to what’s next. The reality is, industries are shifting quickly, and those who succeed are the ones paying attention. I may not engage in every trend, but I make it a priority to ensure my teams are informed and equipped so we can adapt strategically and stay competitive.
How do you use your platform to support your colleagues and community?
I believe it’s critical to show the full journey, not just the polished outcome. People need to see the sleepless nights, the uncertainty, the anxiety and the wins, because that’s what makes success real and attainable. Through SHINE2Inspire, I focus on giving back through education and lived experience. We’ve had more than 200 young adults participate in our programs, with a goal to double that impact. Many have shared that their entire trajectory changed simply because they were exposed to possibilities they didn’t know existed.
As a Power Player, where in your city do you go to unwind or connect?
For me, connection is rooted in relationships. I’ve built a network that is always expanding and connecting me to people doing impactful work. When it comes to unwinding, I enjoy massages and facials, and I spend a lot of time at home with my husband, my two children, my six cocker spaniels and three maltipoos. Sitting by the pool, cocktail in hand, watching them run around, that’s where I’m able to reflect, reset and feel most grounded.
